March 9, 2020 / Education/ Posted by: jakeThis course looks at providing students with the fundamentals that will underpin ongoing professional development, preparing graduates for further study or for a career in a computing or cybersecurity related field.
You will learn how to support the development of computer-based solutions appropriate to the social, political, international, economic and environmental contexts in which they are applied.
COMP1102 Computer Programming 1
The topic is intended as a first topic in programming for students who intend to major in computer science and for students from other disciplines who require programming skills. It aims to introduce students to the basic tools and techniques of software development using an object-oriented language.
COMP1210 Cybersecurity for a Connected World
The topic introduces students to the fundamentals of cybersecurity and the drivers, tools and techniques for securing an organisations’ digital information assets. With a focus on securing connected organisations, the students will study the principles, standards, processes and technologies associated with networked computer systems and data communications, and the cybersecurity associated with these. This will include network design and communication, Information structures and governance, cybersecurity awareness, vulnerabilities, threats, risk assessment, and legal and ethical issues.
COMP1711 Database Modelling and Information Management
The aim of this topic is to familiarise students with the basic concepts, fundamental structures and general techniques that are needed to define, construct and manipulate a database using a Database Management System (DBMS) with the main emphasis on relational DBMSs. The topic will cover the concept of data models, basic skills in data modelling using the Entity-Relationship (ER), Extend Entity-Relationship (EER) and relational data models, their diagrammatic representations, normal forms, relational algebra, and the Structured Query Language (SQL). In addition, the topic will introduce students to data mining and knowledge discovery.
ENGR1762 Networks and Cybersecurity
The topic introduces students to the fundamentals of computer networks and cybersecurity. Students will study the principles, standards, processes and technologies associated with computer networking and data communications, and the cybersecurity vulnerabilities associated with these. This will include the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model, network protocols, network communication, network classifications, aspects of communications cybersecurity, vulnerabilities, threats, basic of cryptography, threats control tools, monitoring tools, incidence response, and legal and ethical issues.
